benl: another lost to alex. Bulgaria 1 - 0 Peru. very even match, 4 shots each, 50% possession, but alex managed to do his trademark low-pass-to-lone-striker move. Lesson: If you're playing Alex, and if he tries this, and he will, be ruthless and take him down.

Alex: great game... one of the best.. lots of pressure.. first goal scored by Steve... own goal. the header went sailing past so quickly before the keeper could say WTF... after that the game closed down.. almost impossible to score until Steve span around 3 players and slotted the goal inside the left post. the game went to extra time... so many tired legs. a couple of chances but no goal. so penalties were needed.. unfortunately Steve knows my first move... always top left. that one save decided the game.. congrats Steve

Tried hard to pass around and get to other side, but ended up ridiculously dribbling off the field few times.. but possession played a big role.. Somehow the ball got passed to me few times
Everything was under control... until one defender decided to 'sneak' pass the ball to the keeper.. NICE... But paid the damage on the second round.
To penalties... Bottom left! that popped in my head split second on the first penalty shoot out... but pressed the left instead. I guess.. it's all about pressing the 'wrong' button at the 'wrong' time..

benl: 1st match of 2009 saw a very evenly contested game between Poland (me) and Chile (Alex). Chile had more ball possession, but it was Poland who had more shots on goal with 11 shots and 4 on target, doubling Chile's 5 shots and 1 on target.
But no goals, and long story short, Chile won because my polish strikers couldn't be arsed.

Alex: Another win for Steve! Maybe his tactic of quality of shot over quantity is working because I had 5 times more shots but only managed one goal (which only just trickled over the line after a deflection off the keeper and then the goal post). Steve's two shots however produced one easy goal and another chance which my defender turned from an easy clearance into THE WORST OWN GOAL EVER!!!
